Wrapped: An Artistic Study of Fabric
December 1, 2023 - November 1, 2024
Wrapped explored the spectacular works of Issey Miyake and Christo & Jeanne-Claude, artists who revolutionized the study of fabric. Issey Miyake was a celebrated designer who transformed the human body with unique fabrics, folds, and colors. Christo and Jeanne-Claude are known for their large-scale installations of fabric encompassing landmarks and public venues.
Like other artists in the Ryobi collection, John and Kimiko Powers were friends with both Miyake, Christo, and Jeanne-Claude, and introduced them in the 1980s. It was a fitting friendship as both artists took an object, something familiar, and transformed it into the unfamiliar. Wrapping an item created new dimensions, whether that be landscapes, monuments, or the human form. Wrapped showcased Issey Miyake's designs through Gallery One and works depicting Christo and Jeanne-Claude's installations in the Learning Lab. See more in the videos below.
