Powers Art Center is pleased to announce Roy Lichtenstein: Beyond Reality, opening June 2nd

The Powers Art Center will present Roy Lichtenstein: Beyond Reality, a major exhibition celebrating one of the most recognizable artists of the Pop Art movement. Opening June 2, 2026, and running through May 1, 2027, the exhibition will feature a wide range of works showcasing Lichtenstein’s bold comic book-inspired imagery, signature Benday dots, and vibrant graphic style.

Best known for transforming the look of comic strips and commercial printing into fine art, Lichtenstein helped define American Pop Art in the 1960s alongside artists such as Andy Warhol. Beyond Reality invites visitors to experience the artist’s work beyond its familiar surface, exploring how he used repetition, scale, color, and visual illusion to challenge the way people see everyday images.

The exhibition is presented in honor of the famed late artist, and will include works ranging from emotional comic-inspired figures to landscapes and striking reinterpretations of classical subjects.“I wanted to dedicate an entire exhibition to Lichtenstein,” said Museum Director and exhibition curator Sonya Taylor Moore. “The size and scope of works in this show are spectacular, and I’m excited for visitors to experience his work in a new way.”
